Francophonie Month 2023: Cultural Program

March is Francophonie Month! In collaboration with our partners, the French Institute of Estonia offers a varied cultural program that will delight lovers of cinema, literature, music and art. Come and celebrate French language and French-speaking cultures with us!

 

Week I

  • 01/03 Language cafe. Come practice your French in the welcoming atmosphere of the French Institute! Rendez-vous at 18:00. More information
  • 01/03 Photo exhibition of the French Institute of Estonia on Molière productions in Estonia throughout the years. Opening of the exhibition at Lääne County Central Library in Haapsalu. More information
  • 01/03 Discussion with stage director and actor Lembit Peterson at Lääne County Central Library in Haapsalu. More information
  • Exhibition of French photographer Sarah Moon at Fotografiska. More information

 

Week II

  • 07/03 Screening of French film “France”, as part of the Month of French-language movies at Kino Sõprus. Featuring Léa Seydoux in the main role, the film is the depiction of a woman, a TV journalist, a country and a media system. The Tuesday French-language screenings of this March are FREE, begin at 18:00 and are with English subtitles. More information
  • 08/03 Concert of French songs by Erkki Otsman and Allan Jaokob at restaurant Brasserie 11. More information

  • 15/03 Wine workshop with wines from Morocco, Tunisia, and Moldova. More information
  • 18/03 French music concert at the Estonian Academy of Music and Theater in honour of Peep Lassmann. More information
  • 19/03 Reading of Edouard Signolet’s youth play “Je m’appelle pas” (My Name Is Nobody) in Estonian – French Fairy Tales Day at Fotografiska. More information
  • 19/03 Screening of Jacques Demy’s cult movie “Peau d’âne” (Donkey Skin) – French Fairy Tales Day at Fotografiska. Featuring Catherine Deneuve, with the music of the legendary Michel Legrand. More information

Week IV

  • 21/03 Francophonie Month free screenings at Kino Sõprus: Belgian Movie “Un Monde”. More information

Week V

  • 27/03 Book club of the French Institute : Annie Ernaux “La Place”/”A Man’s Place” (the event will be in Estonian). Malle Talvet and Anna Linda Varik will be our guests. This time, we will meet at 18:00 at Fotografiska (1st floor). FREE entrance. More information
  • 27/03 French documentary night dedicated to Nobel Prize for Literature winner Annie Ernaux. After the book club, the documentary “J’ai aimé vivre là” by Régis Sauder, a modern depiction of Cergy, hometown of Annie Ernaux, where she wrote most of her work will be shown at Fotografiska. The movie will be in French with English subtitles. More information
  • 28/03 Francophonie Month free screenings at Kino Sõprus: Swiss comedy “Last Dance”. More information
  • 29/03 Wine workshop with wines from Wallonia, Switzerland, Canada. More information
  • 29/03 French pianist Jean-Efflam Bavouzet plays at the Estonia Concert Hall. More information
