Do not miss these 3 French films at this year's Haapsalu's horror and fantasy film festival (HÕFF), from 28th to 30th of April 2017.

Every year in Estonia, HÕFF brings together true fans of the horror/fantasy movie genre. This year’s XII HÕFF program introduces 3 out-of-the-ordinary French films, guaranteeing viewers to experience chills, thrills, dread and maybe even nightmares!

THE FRANKENSTEIN COMPLEX (France 2015)

From directors Gilles Penso and Alexandre Poncet

This documentary is a tribute to the masters that have fashioned the most stunning scenes and amazing creatures in cinema history, from King Kong to Spielberg’s dinosaurs in “Jurassic Park” and many more.

A movie for the whole family that takes you behind the scenes of dozens of the most popular science-fiction/horror/fantasy films around the world. You will see how artists can bring life to creatures that help us better understand our surrounding world (and dreams!). Some of the most celebrated directors and special effects artists, like Guillermo del Toro and Rick Baker et al., add commentaries explaining the workings of these wonderful beasts and technologies.

EVOLUTION (FRANCE 2015)

From director Lucile Hadzihalilovic

The story set is a strange sect-like settlement of women and boys in an isolated village by the sea. Children sent to a hospital by the shore receive a mysterious treatment. Who are these women and boys and why are they there? What you will find is a true nightmarish tale, which reminds of Lovecraft’s stories, who often wrote of mysteries of the ocean and seas.

GRAVE (FRANCE 2016)

From director Julia Ducournau

A horror story following Justine, a young veterinary student. Growing up as a vegetarian, her life changes drastically, when she is forced to eat raw meat for the first time during rough student initiation rituals. As the story develops, she will discover her true carnal self.
