French Government Scholarships – 2022 call open until May 27

Scholarships allocated by the French Government correspond to a monthly allowance of €700 paid directly to the scholarship holder. This amount is intended to cover accommodation and living expenses on site. It cannot be cumulated with a scholarship awarded by another French Ministry or an Erasmus + scholarship.

These scholarships are granted for the duration of an academic year (approximately 9 months, variable if the student has to do an internship or not). A new application to the programme the following year is possible, but not guaranteed. Students planning to stay longer in France should therefore consider additional sources of funding.

Numerous advantages

Being a scholarship holder of the French Government also gives you access to many advantages:

• A lump-sum allowance of €700 for expenses related to your studies (purchase of computer, printing costs of documents…). Accessible for scholarship holders of more than 3 months.
• A flat-rate housing allowance of €167/month for scholarship holders living in the Île-de-France region (€143 outside Île-de-France)*. Upon arrival, the student without permanent accommodation is also compensated for up to 3 nights.
• Tuition fees covered up to €5,000 for the course in question, and total exemption in the case of enrolment in a public institution under the authority of the Minister of Higher Education.
• Enrolment in a health insurance mutual reimbursed up to €264. Enrolment in the general social security system is free of charge. Both registrations are compulsory and guarantee effective social protection.

Scholars are also exempted from the CVEC (student life and campus contribution), which amounts to €91, and which helps to improve campus living conditions and to promote student success, especially by developing sports, art, culture, social support and hospitality.

* Allowance valid for housing with a monthly rent higher than €188. In the case of a lower rent, the student will only be entitled to half.

Requirements to apply

• Be legally resident in Estonia. French citizens (included binationals) are not eligible.
• Hold a recognised higher education diploma enabling you to enrol in one course in France.
• Have an adequate level of French (Diplôme d’Etudes en Langue Française), except in the case of training provided in English.
• Be enrolled or in the process of being enrolled in a French institution eligible for the 2022/2023 academic year.

The call is open to students of all disciplines. However, in accordance with the new strategic plan 2020-2022 of the French Embassy in Estonia, studies in France related to sustainable development, the fight against global warming, energy, health, defense, political sciences or engineering sciences will be favored.

Documents required for the application file

Each candidate must compile an application file, in French or English depending on the training chosen, containing the following documents:

• a curriculum vitae;
• a letter of motivation;
• a copy of the highest university degree;
• a certificate of the training course currently followed in Estonia;
• an attestation of pre-registration from the French higher education establishment (contact the person(s) in charge of the courses you are interested in as soon as possible), which can be provided after the application has been submitted.

Calendar of the call

Because of the health situation related to Covid-19, all the procedure are dematerialized:

• Receipt of the applications before Friday 27 May 2022 midnight, at the following address: melie.cornet [@] ife.ee
• A pre-selection of the best applications will be made after reception of all the applications.
• Individual interviews with the pre-selected candidates will start taking place on Monday 30 May.
• Candidates will be informed of the final decision in June (application accepted, placed on the waiting list or refused).

The application will only be definitively validated upon receipt of the certificate of registration or pre-registration in the French higher education institution.
