In\u00a0relation to the Tartu Worldfilm festival, the French Institute has the great pleasure to invite you to a screening of\u00a0two of Ga\u00eblle Boucand’s documentaries, followed by a discussion with the director herself.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

Ga\u00eblle<\/span> Boucand<\/span><\/b> is a french<\/span> interdiscipinary<\/span> artist who works mainly in visual arts and cinema contexts since 2010. Born in Paris, she graduated from Paris Beaux-Arts. She also studied at the Cooper Union in NY, and was a resident of Pavillon-Palais<\/span> de Tokyo in 2007. Right after she moved to Berlin where she developed a multimedia work and participated in different collaborations implicated in the Berlin city life: arm&sexy<\/i>, a monthly movable party gathering two emblematic and opposite sides of the berliner<\/span> culture, Spre-chkontakt<\/span> mit<\/span> M\u00fcggelturm<\/span><\/i>, an in situ project dealing with the story of two historical towers at the edge of Berlin, and InsBlickfeld<\/i><\/span> ger\u00fcckt<\/span><\/i>, a curatorial program based on a collection of a hundred artist archives, presented in the French Institute. In 2010, she finished her first feature length documentary movie Gone to Croatan<\/span><\/i> that deals with the berliner<\/span> electronic music underground world. Her second documentary JJA<\/span><\/i> was shown in several cinemas, museums and festivals, like Hors Pistes<\/span>\/Centre Georges Pompidou<\/span>, Kasseler<\/span> Videofest<\/span>, Rencontres<\/span> Internationales<\/span> or FIDMarseille<\/span>, and it won three prizes. Her visual work was exhibited internationally, notably in Paris at Mus\u00e9e<\/span> d\u2019Art<\/span> Moderne<\/span>, Palais<\/span> de Tokyo, Kadist<\/span> Foundation, and in Berlin at Bethanien<\/span> and xavielaboulbenne<\/span>. She is now writing her first fictional feature film.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The screened\u00a0films are the first two parts of a trilogy, portraiting a multi-faceted character:<\/p>\n

First film: “JJA”<\/strong><\/p>\n

Synopsis : A man of 85 years old, remote in his luxurious estate, tells about the story of his economic success and the reasons of his exile in Switzerland. His tale is led by several conflicts which set him against people more or less close to him, and displays alternatively from a day to the other, throughout each corners of his residency.<\/p>\n

Second film\u00a0: “Changement de d\u00e9cor”\u00a0(Change of scenery)<\/strong><\/p>\n

Synopsis : An 87-year-old man supervises the renovation of the interior of his luxurious property. Satisfied\u00a0with how his new home has turned out, he urges a range of people to come to visit it. This film is the second part of a trilogy, a kaleidoscopic portrait of a singular character.<\/p>\n
