Smoking Mouse – a French jazz duo in Estonia!

A duo formed by Christophe Girard on accordion and Anthony Caillet on euphonium and flugabone celebrates the Spring in May 2025 with concerts in Estonia!

Founded in 2011, this chamber duet imposes its own identity in jazz music through a narrative discourse combining original writing and improvisation. It’s a real and singular journey that these two musicians propose through this multi-aesthetic project, which is both free and surprising in its richness of timbre and different dynamics.

And the origin of the name ‘Smoking mouse’ ? There’s a French saying:  ‘When the cat’s away, the mice will dance’. In our story, mice prefer playing jazz! And they do it in the classic way, in a good old tuxedo! In French, a tuxedo is called a ‘smoking’. Perhaps the mouse symbol could also be a kind of underground voice, a tiny resistance against the dominant cat’s discourse, another approach to a musical journey…
