Francophonie Celebration in March

In March, let's celebrate the Francophonie with many cultural events!

The French Institute of Estonia, its partners and high representatives of the Francophonie in Estonia, the Embassies of Canada, Belgium, Romania and Switzerland have concocted an appetizing program of cultural events throughout the month of March to delight fans of the French language and Francophone cultures…

 

First week from 4th to 10th of March:

  • Tuesday 5th of March at 6:30 pm: Wallonie-Bruxelles International presents the movie A Wedding. FREE screening at the Sõprus cinema in French with English subtitles (suitable for young audiences)
  • Tuesday 5th of March: Impérial Orphéon at the Jõgeva Cultural Center
  • Wednesday 6th of March: Impérial Orphéon at the Kuressaare Cultural Center
  • Thursday 7th of March: Impérial Orphéon at the Kilingi-Nõmme Cultural Center
  • Friday 8th of March: Impérial Orphéon at the cultural center of Türi
  • Saturday 9th of March from 1 pm to 5 pm: The Day of the French Language at the European School of Tallinn. FREE
  • Saturday 9th of March at 8 pm: Impérial Orphéon invites you to dance at Philly Joe’s jazzclub. TICKETS
  • Sunday 10th of March at 5 pm: the last concert of Impérial Orphéon at the cultural center of Vastseliina.

 

Second week from 11th to 17th of March:

  • Monday to Wednesday 11th, 12th and 13th of March: the last three performances of the show “The Cloud Opera or The Dido Problem” at Vaba Lava. TICKETS
  • Tuesday 12th of March at 6:30 pm: the Canadian film The Fireflies Are Gone at the Sõprus cinema. The movie is in French, subtitled in English (suitable for young audiences). FREE
  • Wednesday 13th of March at 6:30 pm: at KUMU, the French documentary film Last Days in Shibati. FREE
  • Thursday 14th of March at 6 pm: the french language café and apéro special Francophonie at the French Institute. FREE
  • Thursday 14th of March at 7:30 pm: at the cinema Sõprus, the premiere of the French movie Sorry Angel. The movie is in French subtitled in Estonian and in Russian.

 

Third week from 18th to 24th of March: 

  • From Monday 18th to Saturday 23rd of March: a selection of French documentary films at the Tartu World Film Festival. The directors of Remake of a Summer, Séverine Enjolras and Magali Bragard will be present.
  • Tuesday 19th of March: gourmet dinners are proposed by the Toques Blanches, top chefs from Lyon, in the Art Priori, Dominic and Horisont restaurants.
  • Tuesday 19th of March: Belgian author Caroline De Mulder will give the lecture “L’Altérité dans la littérature francophone” at the University of Tartu.
  • Tuesday 19th of March: the month of the Francophonie continues at the Sõprus cinema at 18H30 with the French documentary Remake of a Summer with the presence of the directors Séverine Enjolras and Magali Bragard. FREE
  • Wednesday 20th of March at 2 pm : the Belgian author Caroline De Mulder will give a lecture at the University of Tallinn. FREE. 
  • Thursday 21st of March: The festival of French gastronomy “Goût de France” is celebrated in several restaurants throughout Estonia.
  • Friday 22th of March: the week will end with the Parisian DJs Souleance. More information coming soon.

 

Fourth week from 25th to 31st of March: 

  • Tuesday 26th of March at 6:30 pm: Swiss cinema is in the spotlight with the movie Those Who Work. FREE screening at the Sõprus cinema.
  • Friday 29th of March at 12:  Two storytellers, Monique Burg in French and Piret Päär in Estonian at the Children’s Literature Centre.
  • Friday 29th of March in the evening, in Estonian cinemas. Come and see the adventures of the most famous French private detective, Vidocq, in The Emperor of Paris.
