About women: free movie screenings at Artis #NaistEST

March 4, 2017 / March 7, 2017

#NaistEST is the hashtag that gathers several initiatives into a large campaign in favor of equality of rights between men and women in Estonia. (#naistest means "about women" while the capital -EST is a reminder of Estonia)

On the occasion of the #naistEST campaign, and ahead of the exhibition “Look for the woman” at the Museum of Occupations, the French Institute and its partners are pleased to present free movie screenings at the cinema Artis.

  • Saturday March 4 at 5pm: Violette, French biopic on Violette Leduc, a feminist writer who was a friend to Simone de Beauvoir
  • Sunday March 5 at 5pm: La Belle Saison (“The nice season”), drama comedy on a love affair between two women, a farmer and a feminist teacher, in France during the 70’s
  • Monday March 6 at 7pm: The Mountain Queen (Kurmanjan Datka), khirgiz blockbuster about the first woman in history of Central Asia who had the title of “Datka” (general) while being a queen.
  • Tuesday March 7 at 7pm: Et maintenant, on va où? (“And now, where do we go?”), a French-Libanese-Egyptian-Italian comedy taking place in a small Libanese village where women of both muslim and christian communities will try to avoid men killing each other

All movies will be in French with Estonian + Russian subtitles, except the Khirgiz movie that will be subtitled in English.

And if you like movies, don’t forget to go watch the other ones programmed by the French Institute for our Month of Francophonie, of which the screenings at Artis are also part.
